CHENNAI: The United Nations celebrated the 133rd birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar with global leaders for two days, on April 18 and April 23, at its headquarters in New York.
According to a press release, leaders and representatives from 195 countries participated in the events, organised by the Foundation For Human Horizon. It was the first time in UN history that two full days were dedicated to Dr Ambedkar.
India’s ambassador was absent at the event due to the ongoing elections in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the event organiser Deelip Mhaske.
Discussions were held as part of the celebration on two themes, youth-led solutions for sustainable development goals (SDGs) and empowering indigenous youth leading the charge for resilient mountain agriculture. Two policy papers were prepared based on the discussions. They would be presented at the United Nations General Assembly in September.
